Why do we celebrate holidays? Let us take a look at some and see if you can come up with the answer!
New Year’s Day
God allowed both the world to exist and us to live another year! He did not have to do that, so this is a huge blessing and a great reason to celebrate!
Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day
Our parents give us a home, food, clothes, love, and, most importantly, the Gospel of Jesus Christ! A day set aside to honor them is another awesome reason to celebrate!
Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Veterans Day/Memorial Day
A day set aside to remember those who served in the Military and another day for those who fought in wars and lost their lives is an important reason to celebrate. They valued the lives and freedom of others over their own!
John 15:12-13 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Easter/Resurrection Sunday
After The Lord Jesus Christ willing received the judgement for our sin on the cross, He gave up His life. Then, He defeated death so we could share in His eternal life! WOW! I ask you, what better reason could there be for a celebration?
Luke 24:6-7 “He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
Thanksgiving
A day to remember that we have so much to be thankful for. This is so important for us. It helps us think correctly, avoiding familiarity with the Lord’s blessings.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ”Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Christmas
God became a man and lived among us, all to save us from sin by being judged in our place. WOW! No one else’s birthday is more important to celebrate than Jesus’!
Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Do you notice a common theme? Each is a day set aside to be grateful. As believers, we have so very much to be thankful for. God saves us, He loves us, and we will be with Him forever! Every day is a holiday when we live in gratitude. Thank You, Lord!
